What is the Betterex terminal? The Betterex terminal is a terminal that allows the customer to bet into an exchange. An exchange enables you to either place bets on an
event for which someone else has offered odds (known as backing) or you can offer odds on an event yourself (known as laying). In a betting exchange, customers bet against other bettors, not against a bookmaker.

How does it work?
The terminal provides a simple link to the BetDaq betting exchange via an internet connection. You put cash into the terminal and receive a betslip as soon as a bet has been placed. Winnings are paid out over the counter or can be put back into the terminal in order to place further bets.

Is it difficult to use?
It is very simple to use. You start by loading cash into the terminal and then navigating a simple menu to find the desired event using the touch-sensitive screen. On each event the terminal will display the selections along with a price to back and a price to lay. After making your selection and choosing your price you then select the amount you want to bet. The terminal displays details of the bet and as soon as you confirm the bet a betslip is printed out.

Who am I betting against?
You are betting against people who have offered the price on the exchange. They could be using terminals such as ours or betting over the internet anywhere in the world. The exchange handles the money transactions and we pay you in the event of a win.

What’s in it for Better?
Better apply a small mark up to the prices offered on the exchange. The odds displayed on the Betterex terminal include the mark up.

What can I bet on?
You can bet on any of the markets displayed on the Betterex terminal. There is normally an extensive list of events that include international horse racing, GAA, foreign football and Asian Handicaps.

How do I put money into the terminals?
You can load £5, £10 or £20 notes into them or you can put money behind the counter and ask our staff to credit the terminal.

Where are the betting rules to be found?
The rules are clearly displayed on the terminal itself and a printed version is available for viewing behind the counter. The rules are slightly different to the rules for ‘over-the-counter betting’.

How do I get paid?
The Betterex terminal will print a betslip that shows the details of your bet and the potential return. If you have a winning bet, the betslip can be exchanged for cash at the counter or can be inserted into the Betterex terminal which will then add the winnings to
your balance. The Betterex terminal will only register a win after the event has weighed in.

If Better are adding a margin why shouldn’t I bet on the internet and save the margin?
The customer always has the choice of betting online or betting in a shop. At Better we aim to make the customer experience so good that the choice is an easy one to make.

I’ve heard exchanges display prices differently. Is this true?

Betterex can show prices as normal betting shop fractions e.g. 9/4 or 5/2 or as decimals e.g. 3.25 or 3.5. There is a button at the bottom of the screen called ‘display odds as fractions’ that allows you to see the odds in either format.
